Odaily Planet Daily reported that Swedish IT system supplier Miljödata was attacked by ransomware, and hackers demanded 1.5 BTC (about 170,000 US dollars) to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. The company provides services to about 80% of Swedish municipalities, and about 200 municipal and regional services were affected. Some universities and private institutions were also affected. SVT said all services are expected to be restored by Friday this week. Affected institutions include Örebro University and Lund University, both of which said they are not sure whether personal data leaks have occurred. Swedish Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin called for strengthening the overall cybersecurity of society and hinted that a new cybersecurity bill will be promoted. (Protos)
