Odaily Planet Daily reported that Nick Timiraos, the "Federal Reserve's mouthpiece," published an article saying that this week's Federal Reserve meeting may have two governors with different opinions, which has never happened in more than 30 years (or 259 consecutive policy meetings). Powell and some of his colleagues have expressed a preference for a wait-and-see attitude at this week's meeting, and the potential opponents - Federal Reserve Governors Waller and Bowman - happen to be two appointees of President Trump. Both have expressed support for a rate cut, and Trump has also publicly called for a rate cut. Tim Duy, chief US economist at SGH Macro Advisors, said, "Sooner or later, Trump will have an impact on every institution, and perhaps the Fed's ability to resist this influence is over." Regardless of Powell's decision, disagreements this week may be inevitable - if the Fed cuts interest rates, it may face opposition from hawks who are worried about rekindled inflation. (Golden Ten)
