Iran terror attack victims request court order for Tether to transfer $344 million in frozen USDT
Odaily reported that a group of plaintiffs holding US court judgments against Iranian terrorism filed a motion on Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, requesting the judge to compel Tether to zero out approximately 344.1 million USDT held in two wallet addresses associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that have been sanctioned by OFAC, and to reissue an equivalent amount of USDT to the plaintiffs' designated wallet.
The plaintiffs argue that Tether has the technical capability and bears corresponding legal obligations under the New York Turnover Law and federal anti-terrorism enforcement regulations. They cited Tether's prior compliance with FBI seizure orders and its precedent of token destruction and reissuance in an Ohio case. The total judgment amount the plaintiffs seek to enforce is approximately $2.42 billion, covering compensatory and punitive damages from multiple cases involving Iranian terrorism spanning over two decades. Tether froze the relevant wallets on April 24 of this year, the same day OFAC added them to its sanctions list. (The Block)
