On October 18, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin conducted an open AMA on Warpcast, a social media platform based on Farcaster.
During the several-hour interaction, the community asked Vitalik many interesting questions, involving the development of Ethereum and Crypto, views on real society, personal hobbies and experiences, etc. Vitalik also selected some of the questions. Answered carefully.
Below are some more meaningful (or meaningful) QA content selected by Odaily.

Question 1: About personal motivation
Q: What is your source of motivation?
Vitalik: My motivation comes from knowing that the Ethereum community and the things we are building have a very unique meaning in this increasingly complex world, and we can do something really valuable. Positive outcomes don’t come naturally along the way, so it’s our responsibility to think through them and make them a reality.
Question 2: About quantum threats
Q: I would like to know your views on quantum computers and their solutions, because I think it will be realized sooner than people expect.
Vitalik: Account abstraction (ERC-4337) provides us with a clear way to make user accounts quantum-resistant. For existing accounts, if the quantum computer era suddenly comes, we may have to do a hard fork. You will be able to prove your 12-word mnemonic through ZK-STARK and restore your EOA address.
For the consensus layer, alternatives to STARK-based BLS aggregation, Verkle tree, and KZG-based DAS are being actively explored.
Question 3: About Bitcoin
Q: Do you think Bitcoin will still have value after Ethereum exists?
Vitalik: This article by Starknet developer abdel.stark about “Ethereum AlignmentThe article explains this issue very well. Bitcoin adopts a different set of technical trade-offs and therefore covers a completely different hypothesis space than Ethereum.
Question 4: Design limitations of Layer 2
Q: Scroll recently launched its zkEVM mainnet. However, since Layer 2 needs to closely model the classic EVM on Ethereum, we are unlikely to see innovative design concepts and experiments on the execution layer, such as privacy features.
Vitalik: I dont think privacy is needed at the execution layer, it can be built on top.
Question 5: About upper-layer applications
Q: In your opinion, why haven’t cryptocurrency-based prediction markets gained much traction? Do you still think they have potential? What more do they need to do to “take off”?
Vitalik: They are slowly getting closer. Polymarket has made considerable progress recently, and it seems to blend Crypto attributes and business development better than any previous attempts.
Question 6: About traditional finance and capitalism
Q: In your opinion, what are the biggest threats facing traditional finance and late capitalism?
Vitalik: traditional army, late authoritarianism.
Question 7: About climate change
Q: What are your views on climate change?

Odaily Note: The potential impact of climate change on the GDP of different economies
Vitalik: Anything that could have such an impact on the world is worth worrying about. Just the mere halving of GDP would be terrible for the worlds poorest countries, not to mention the direct impact on humanity. But having said that, thoughts like This will make the world such a bad place, I shouldnt economize my children are also wrong and harmful.
Im invested in a solar cell company and am open to more. We need to intentionally commit resources while moving down many technology paths to properly address this problem.
Question 8: About “sky-high” consumption
Q: Do you still have the T-shirt you bought for 8.5 BTC?
Vitalik: Not anymore. Sadly, I lost it years ago when I forgot my bag on a train in England.
Question 9: About the music you like to listen to
Q: What music are you listening to these days?
Vitalik: Some high-energy Chinese songs are very suitable to listen to during the 15-20 kilometers of long-distance running, and can significantly increase running speed. For example, Angela Changs Aurora and Broken Cocoon can almost increase my speed by 10%.
Recently I also listen to some Japanese songs.
Question 10: About your favorite city
Q: What is your favorite city (or place) to walk in? Do you like changes after becoming a public figure?
Vitalik: Ive definitely become less of a city dweller lately, and even when Im in Singapore, I tend to live further away from the city center, like near Reservoir Park.
In terms of cities, I prefer Singapore, Taipei, Vienna, Toronto, and Ithaca, New York.
Question 11: About sports
Q: Do you want to play tennis together?
Vitalik: Are you talking about track and field table tennis? Hahaha I was just making fun of the sport that is always mistakenly called table tennis. I havent played either sport in a long time and would love to try it out at some point.
Question 12: About diet
Q: What did you eat this morning?
Vitalik: About 16 grams of Lindt 85% dark chocolate, I ran out of my favorite 90% dark chocolate. I usually only eat two meals a day, brunch and dinner, about 6 hours apart.
summary
In addition to the above questions, community users also raised some other valuable questions, such as former Scalar Capital partner Linda Xie asked What ideas do you want people to try to build again that failed to be realized in the early stages of Ethereum? etc. Waiting, but perhaps busy with other matters, Vitalik has not responded in the last 8 hours.
Since Farcaster has relaxed registration restrictions earlier this month, interested iOS users (Android is not yet supported) can try to register and experience Warpcast, and perhaps get a personal reply from Vitalik.
