The vision of Chromia is to become the platform of choice for GameFi and other use cases like DeFi etc.

Chromia is a brand new blockchain platform for decentralized applications, aiming to solve the shortcomings of existing platforms and usher in a new era of decentralized applications.

Although a platform like Ethereum can theoretically support the execution of any application, there are many limitations in actual application: poor user experience, high platform fees, poor developer experience, and low security. All of these have hindered the pace of decentralized applications going mainstream.

To solve this series of problems, Chromia re-understands the blockchain architecture and designs modules centered on the needs of decentralized applications. The first tasks are:

  • Making decentralized applications accessible to millions of users.

  • Make the user experience as smooth as a centralized application, with no charge for each interaction and no waiting time.

  • It enables developers to develop secure applications by referring to similar paradigms with minimal effort.

In order to deepen topics such as the characteristics of the Chromia platform, on December 21, 2021, CryptoJ specially invited Chromia Co-Founder&COO, Or Perelman to be the guest of this issue of AMA "Starting from the World of Chain Games - Chromia Creates Decentralized Applications with Ultra-High Performance" New Era".

Talking about Chromia

At the beginning of AMA, Or Perelman briefly introduced Chromia's birth background and vision with us, and summarized Chromia's main features in a few sentences or keywords. He said:

Chromia's vision is to become the platform of choice for GameFi and other use cases such as DeFi, etc.

While platforms like Ethereum theoretically allow any type of application to be built, in practice they have many limitations: poor user experience, high fees, frustrating developer experience, poor security.

This prevents decentralized applications (dapps) from going mainstream. Chromia believes that in order to properly address these issues, blockchain architecture and programming models need to be seriously rethought, taking into account the needs of decentralized applications.

  • Allows dapps to scale to millions of users

  • Improve the user experience of dapps to achieve the same experience as centralized applications

  • Allows developers to build secure applications using familiar paradigms

The blockchain plays the role of a shared database in the decentralized application ecosystem: it stores application data and ensures that additions, updates, and transformations of data are authorized and consistent with the application's rules.

For this reason, Chromia is designed and optimized to serve the role of the shared database in the best possible way. It is implemented using the existing Postchain framework developed by ChromaWa, and it hasThe following features:

  • Models considered the best in terms of flexibility, generality and consistency

  • Relational programming language: Chromia Dapp backends are written in a specialized language that is deeply integrated with the relational model. This model increases programmer productivity and ensures application consistency.

  • Horizontal scaling: Each Dapp has its own blockchain. Because each blockchain is run by a subset of nodes, overall throughput can be increased by increasing the number of nodes.

  • Rich indexing and querying: Dapps can quickly retrieve the required information directly from the node running the application. Dapp blockchain logic can perform complex queries without severe performance degradation.

  • High I/O throughput: Data queries and updates are delegated to a highly optimized relational database, allowing Dapps to perform massive query and data update operations.

  • PBFT Consensus: Transactions can be confirmed within seconds.

  • Tier 1 Dapps: Dapps do not come from "smart contracts" in Chromia, but Tier 1 entities. Chromia provides Dapp developers with a high degree of flexibility and control.

Chromia offers the same level of openness, transparency, and decentralization as other public blockchains. In Chromia, miners are replaced by providers. Provider owns nodes that produce 4 blocks.

It has been suggested that if the four largest mining pools in bitcoin and ethereum collude with each other, they could exert significant control over the networks. Chromia's goal is to ensure that the minimum number of node providers required to exert such control over Chromia exceeds this number significantly.

Therefore, it can be said that the Chromia model does not tend to be centralized like the oldest and most trusted public blockchains. Chromia's PBFT consensus is further strengthened by anchoring the Chromia chain to a PoW (Proof of Work) blockchain (probably Bitcoin or Ethereum). This ensures finality, the guarantee that confirmed transactions cannot be changed, is at least as strong as the chosen anchor chain.

team background

team background

When getting to know a project for the first time, many people will be more concerned about the background of the team members behind it. Or Perelman then gave a brief introduction to the Chromia team members and shared some interesting stories behind the team. He pointed out:

Financing & Cooperation Progress

Financing & Cooperation Progress

Chromia has gained widespread attention in the market as it continues to move forward. Or Perelman shared with us Chromia's current financing, cooperation progress, and phased progress so far as follows:

Chromia positioning

For Chromia is more like a Layer1 underlying public chain, or a Layer2 scalability solution, or a topic of both, Or Perelman shared:

Chromia is an L1 public chain with a L2 flavor. Chromia has deployed its own decentralized Ethereum bridge and a plasma version similar to Chromia, and is working closely with the Ethereum and BSC ecosystems.

The fusion of Chromia and GameFi

Recently, related concepts such as GameFi and Metaverse have become one of the hot topics in the market. Popular game projects such as My Neighbor Alice and Mines of Dalarnia are also built on Chromia. Or Perelman shared with us how Chromia is combined with GameFi, and Currently on the layout of the GameFi track and other topics:

Chromia use cases

Or Perelman responded to whether Chromia mainly focuses on game DApps, and if so, whether the scope and target market are too narrow, and what other use cases Chromia has.

Rell language

Chromia uses a unique Rell language. Regarding topics such as what the Rell language is, whether it is for programming DApps on Chromia, what is the difference from SQL before, and whether there will be a high technical threshold, Or Perelman said:

RELL is the language used by Chromia smart contracts. It differs from SQL in that it is 9 times more compact and has no technical barriers. Anyone who knows SQL can easily master RELL.

NFT platform Chromia-Originals

Chromia plans to launch the NFT platform Chromia-Originals, Or Perelman and we introduce the operating mechanism and characteristics of this platform:

Although NFT is the general trend, the underlying technology is very immature. Essentially, the Ethereum blockchain just tracks the association between an address and an NFT identifier. The rest exist off-chain and thus rely on centralized technology. In addition, the cost of creating NFT is also high.

Those NFTs that disappear are also a problem: “People keep disappearing those expensive NFTs, and that’s why.”

For details, please refer to:

https://www.vice.com/en/article/pkdj79/peoples-expensive-nfts-keep-vanishing-this-is-why

Therefore, Chromia can identify the following issues:

  • There is no strong connection between NFTs and metadata: the data can disappear, forming a useless identifier.

  • No close tie to the issuer: Ethereum NFTs are basically identified by a combination of the contract address and an identifier within the contract. Information about publishers (such as artists) is often stored on a website, which may disappear or display incorrect information.

  • No decentralized marketplace: people have to rely on the information displayed by the website, so it is possible for the website to deceive users or censor certain NFTs.

  • Transferred rights are unclear: It is unclear whether the NFT owner has any rights, not even the right to display the content. As Leigh Cuen said. "NFT is just a receipt." It's the digital analog of a signature, but unlike a physical signature, it's not attached to the object, and thus doesn't confer ownership of anything other than the NFT identifier itself.

To address these issues, Chromia proposes the creation of a holistic platform based on the Chromia Originals protocol, which will provide a curated marketplace.

Originals store metadata along with the NFT's ownership information, making them inseparable. Thus, the risk of unowned NFTs is eliminated.

  • Chromia can also store data related to NFTs, ensuring their longevity and thus their collectible value.

  • NFT certification: Chromia can track the issuance information of NFTs, and an identity registry with network of trust functions can provide evidence that NFTs were created by real authors.

  • Metadata about intellectual property, along with NFT certification, provides evidence that the NFT owner does indeed own specific rights.

Chromia's goal is not only to solve the problem of NFTs, but to create new opportunities in games and collectible tokens.

  • The OriginalsHub DAO will commission the integration of games into OriginalsHub, especially the creation of new games. This creates a new way of funding and monetizing games, especially relevant to indie game developers. (Note that the legal risk may be much lower than the ICO model).

  • As a corollary, ownership of OriginalsHub tokens creates an opportunity for players to get new games for free (sort of like a game subscription), and a place to indicate their preference for new game creation.

  • In addition, OriginalsHub creates a multiverse of games where items can be transported from one metaverse to another. This creates a stronger connection between the player's identity and his items, since he can reuse items in other games.

  • The "Game Multiverse" feature reduces the cost of acquiring assets for new games: since players can carry items (because they earn the rights to use their items in other games), there is no need to create large quantities of them.

  • "Game Multiverse" realizes innovative cross-game play and increases replayability.

  • OriginalsHub creates an easy way for brands to create branded items. Such items won't be limited to a single app, as OriginalsHub will make it possible for them to be used in many different contexts, across different apps and games.

Token Value Capture

Regarding token value capture, Or Perelman shared Chromia's token economic model, how to motivate users to hold tokens for a long time, and what application scenarios tokens have. He said:

Chromia’s tokens will be used by DApps to pay hosting fees, thereby compensating nodes. The token will be used as a "standard" currency in the Chromia economy, as DApps can collect it as a fee, or as a reserve pegged to their own token, etc. Tokens are also used to secure staked token providers’ interest in the Chromia ecosystem, thereby neutralizing the incentive for collusion.

Recent Development Plan

Recent Development Plan

At the end of the AMA, Or Perelman shared CHromia's next development plan, whether there will be a new game version, and will cooperate with other projects such as GameFi and Metaverse. He said:

Chromia is always updated every few weeks to the community, and the community can always check bitbucket for updated code and ongoing partnership releases.
