Facing Potential Removal, MSCI's New Rules to Take Effect in 2026, Strategy and Metaplanet Affected
Odaily News: MSCI has announced the formal adoption of its Non-Operating Company Index Exclusion Rules, which will be implemented during the November 2026 index review and take effect after the close of trading on November 30. Under the new rules, MSCI will first assess whether a company holds substantial operating assets; companies that fail the initial screening will undergo five financial ratio tests; if at least four exclusion criteria are triggered, the company will be ineligible for index inclusion. Bitcoin treasury companies Strategy and Metaplanet face potential removal, with the final list to be announced on November 11. JPMorgan previously estimated that if Strategy is removed from the MSCI index, it could face approximately $2.8 billion in selling pressure.
