Meta releases open-weight AI model, but its most powerful technology remains closed-source

Odaily reports that Meta Platforms (META.O) has launched a new open-weight AI model, Muse Spark Open, primarily targeting coding and AI agent tasks, but it has not open-sourced its most powerful model. Meta's Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, stated that Muse Spark Open is not the most powerful model the company has developed or released.

Muse Wonder, which Meta launched earlier this week, still uses a closed-source model. Meta also acknowledged that Chinese open-weight models still outperform Muse Spark Open in software development and certain other tasks. Meanwhile, Meta has partnered with Apple (AAPL.O) to support developers in running Muse Spark Open locally across multiple high-end Mac computers. Apple has updated its MLX software toolkit to support running the model on Mac devices.
