ECB Recruits Online Merchants to Participate in Digital Euro Pilot
Odaily reports: The European Central Bank (ECB) is recruiting e-commerce and mobile commerce merchants to participate in a digital euro pilot. The pilot will launch in the second half of 2027 and last for 12 months.
The pilot will use a test currency similar to the digital euro but without legal tender status to test online and offline payments, preparing for a possible digital euro issuance in 2029. The ECB seeks to address the growing use of U.S. dollar stablecoins in Europe by expanding merchant acceptance and reducing payment fees. (CoinDesk)
