NBCUniversal has announced a further partnership with Aptos Labs to integrate blockchain technology into digital media and entertainment experiences. The two companies are collaborating on two key projects: Watchee, a decentralized media operating system, and Backlot Club, an interactive entertainment platform.
Watchee, built by Aptos Labs for NBCUniversal, is powered by Shelby, the first decentralized, cloud-scale hot storage protocol. The system aims to redefine how media assets are distributed, accessed, and interacted with, facilitating cross-platform content circulation. Watchee is currently open for waitlist registration and is expected to launch in the first or second quarter of 2026.
Backlot Club, an interactive entertainment platform launched by NBCUniversal this year, offers fans a brand-new immersive experience through themed challenges, digital badges, and rewards. The platform debuted during Halloween Horror Nights 2025 at Universal Studios Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood, incorporating an interactive scavenger hunt powered by Aptos Labs. The platform is now officially live and operational.
This collaboration further solidifies Aptos' position as a global enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure provider, providing a new technological landscape for the digital transformation of the traditional entertainment industry.
