Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm has filed a request with a federal judge to dismiss charges against him since his high-profile criminal trial ended in August.
Storm's not guilty plea comes exactly eight weeks after a jury found him guilty of conspiracy to operate an unregistered money transmission business, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
But the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the most serious charges - conspiracy to launder money and evade sanctions. Those two charges carry a cumulative maximum sentence of 40 years, and prosecutors have not yet decided whether to retry Storm.
Storm's lawyer asked the judge to find him not guilty on all three counts, arguing that the evidence presented during his three-week trial failed to prove Storm had criminal intent and that the case should not have been tried in New York (DL News).
