According to Odaily Planet Daily, Telegram founder Pavel Durov posted on the X platform: "A year ago, French police detained me for four days simply because some people I had never heard of used Telegram to coordinate crimes. Arresting the CEO of a major platform for the actions of its users is not only unprecedented, but also legally and logically absurd. A year later, the "criminal investigation" launched against me is still struggling to find evidence of any wrongdoing by me or Telegram. Our content moderation practices are in line with industry standards, and Telegram has always responded to all legally binding requests from France.
Ironically, I was arrested due to the French police's own mistake: before August 2024, they ignored French and EU laws and never sent any query requests to Telegram through the prescribed legal channels.
A year after this bizarre arrest, I still have to return to France every 14 days, with no appeal date yet. So far, the only consequence of my arrest has been to severely damage France's image as a free country. One thing is certain: we will continue our fight, and we will prevail.
