'Armored Tesla' disappears from US government procurement list

2025-02-13 04:38

Odaily News Earlier reports said that the U.S. State Department's procurement forecast list did not mention the $400 million purchase of armored electric vehicles from Tesla (TSLA.O). The version of the document in December last year included a budget item for "armored Tesla" starting in 2025 for five years, but the document has been modified to remove Tesla's name.
Musk's unprecedented role as a government spending watchdog in the Trump administration has also raised a recurring question: how does he police himself when his company bids for official contracts? Musk argued that all activities of the government efficiency department he leads will be handled in a transparent manner. Now, a $400 million contract remains on file, still in the planning stages, but the name has been changed to the more general "armored electric vehicle." (Jin Shi)
