Wife of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan hopes the U.S. can "do more" to help

2024-06-08 07:25
Odaily News Yuki Gambaryan, the wife of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive who has been detained for more than three months on suspicion of money laundering and tax evasion, revealed more details about Tigran's arrest. She said she had only spoken to him twice since Gambaryan was imprisoned in April. Meanwhile, Tigran missed his son's fifth birthday and kindergarten graduation ceremony, and spent his 40th birthday in prison. Yuki said she was very grateful for the letter from US lawmakers, but added that she hoped the US government would respond faster, especially considering Tigran's previous position at the IRS. She said that during his 10 years at the agency, Tigran was involved in some of the government's most high-profile investigations, often working late into the night. He would spend half a year on business trips, mainly for Yuki to raise their two children. "This is his sacrifice for the country and the government," Yuki said, "so I expect to see more progress." (DL News) Earlier, several US politicians have asked US President Biden and the hostage affairs unit to try to bring home Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive who has been detained in Nigeria for more than three months on suspicion of money laundering and tax evasion. In a June 4 letter to U.S. President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger D. Carstens, 12 U.S. politicians stressed that Gambaryan is still “wrongfully detained” by the Nigerian government and that immediate action must be taken to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. “We fear for his life. Immediate action must be taken to ensure his safety and preserve his life. We must act quickly before it is too late.” The U.S. politicians also said that Gambaryan was not allowed to meet with his legal team without Nigerian officials and armed guards. Prior to joining Binance, Gambaryan worked for the IRS for ten years.
