Fed officials have signaled they are in no rush to raise interest rates further, but have different views on the path of inflation
2023-11-30 01:25
Odaily News Two Federal Reserve officials on Wednesday provided reasons for keeping interest rates unchanged, while another warned that the risk of stubbornly high inflation should keep the option of further rate hikes open. Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester, who has been calling for a rate hike this year, said monetary policy is in a good place, suggesting she supports keeping the policy on hold again at next months meeting. Atlanta Fed President Bostic said he is increasingly confident that inflations downward trajectory may continue, while Richmond Fed President Barkin said the option of raising interest rates should be kept open in case inflation becomes stubborn. Bostic and Barkin have different views on the inflation outlook. Barkin pointed to lingering price pressures in housing and services as reason for caution. (Golden Ten)
