One tweet from Vitalik once again demonstrated his influence, but what exactly about Trueo's underlying design struck a nerve with Ethereum's co-founder?
AI Summary
Expand
  • Key Takeaways: Trueo announced its migration from Base to Ethereum mainnet. After receiving public support from Vitalik, the TRUE token surged over 10x within five hours. However, its on-chain trading volume remains extremely low, making the migration look more like a fight for survival than ecosystem expansion.
  • Key Elements:
    1. Vitalik posted praise for Trueo's commitment to decentralization and ethical principles. The TRUE token rallied from approximately $0.02 to $0.214, a maximum gain of over 10x.
    2. Trueo's TVL on Base is around $800,000, but its trading volume over the past 7 days was only $2,775, with cumulative volume of $780,000 — far below comparable project Limitless's $1.465 billion.
    3. The primary reason for migration is that Base struggles to generate high-frequency liquidity, there is a vacuum in the Ethereum L1 native prediction market ecosystem, and Trueo can leverage Vitalik's attention and a censorship-resistance narrative.
    4. The product employs a seven-tier optimistic oracle arbitration mechanism, combined with TYD yield-bearing tokens and random validator privacy voting, in an attempt to prevent whale capital from hijacking governance.
    5. TRUE has a total supply of 100 million tokens, with 40.3% allocated to Patron NFT holders. The team operates anonymously, with initial funding from a crowdsale that raised over $4 million in 2024.
    6. Risks include a liquidity pool of only about $600,000, an undetermined mainnet timeline, unverified oracle ruling friction, and uncertainty over whether celebrity attention can translate into sustainable trading volume once the hype fades.

On September 22, the decentralized prediction market protocol Trueo announced that it will deploy to the Ethereum mainnet. Trueo has been native to Base since its launch in March 2025. Project lead MilliΞ subsequently confirmed the development in a post. Hours later, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin publicly expressed his anticipation: "Glad to see Ethereum L1 getting a strong new competitor in prediction markets. It is committed to decentralization and ethical principles, rejects corporate, soulless mediocrity, and is genuinely trying to do something valuable with this economic primitive."

The secondary market was quickly driven up by sentiment, with the protocol token TRUE surging from about $0.02 to about $0.214 within five hours, a maximum gain of over 10x. As of press time, according to GMGN market data, TRUE is trading at about $0.11, with an FDV of about $11 million (100 million maximum supply).

This is not the first time Vitalik has publicly mentioned Trueo. As early as November 2024, he contributed about 32 ETH to subscribe to 400 Patron NFTs; in May 2026, when Trueo became embroiled in an oracle ruling controversy, Vitalik also commented that "the quality of a prediction market depends on the reliability of its oracle," and proposed making the Attester voting mechanism private.

Why Ethereum?

As for the reason for the migration, Trueo's announcement explained that when it launched in early 2025, Ethereum mainnet Gas costs were relatively high and the mechanism design was still in an experimental phase, making Base a more cost-effective "sandbox."

Now the team hopes to build Trueo into a foundational protocol that is "highly integrated, permissionless, with immutable core contracts and highly trusted." However, judging from its open-source code on GitHub, its existing architecture still includes upgradeable modules, and "immutable" is more of an evolutionary goal than an established fact that has already been implemented.

The announcement specifically noted that the mainnet deployment is not a rejection of the Base ecosystem's competitiveness; the core drivers are Ethereum mainnet's stronger network effects, global integration, and the relative vacuum in the L1-native prediction market ecosystem.

According to the plan, after launching on the mainnet, the team will focus on bootstrapping liquidity for core categories and launching a "next-generation oracle." The migration plan itself has no hard deadline, and existing trading, settlement, and redemption on Base continue to operate normally, while platform user funds in TYD also continue to accrue interest; the official recommendation is only that users avoid creating far-dated markets settling after January 31, 2027, and wait until the mainnet version goes live before deploying them.

But if one examines its on-chain situation more closely, this looks more like a breakout it had no choice but to make.

According to DefiLlama data, Trueo's current TVL is about $800,000, ranking in the lower-middle range among all prediction market projects, but within the Base ecosystem it is already the second-largest prediction market, with locked value exceeding similar projects such as Limitless and Overtime.

However, its total prediction market volume over the past 7 days was as low as $2,775, with 24-hour protocol fee revenue of about $11, while Limitless and Sport.fun, also on Base, recorded weekly volumes of about $2.15 million and $1.42 million respectively; Limitless's cumulative volume has reached $1.465 billion, Sport.fun's is $134 million, and Trueo's cumulative volume since launching more than a year ago is only $780,000.

Given the reality that it is difficult to catalyze high-frequency liquidity on Base, Trueo's move to L1 will certainly face higher Gas resistance, but it can also rely on Ethereum mainnet's censorship-resistant geek narrative and Vitalik's attention.

Product Mechanism: Yield-Bearing Logic and Seven-Stage Arbitration

In terms of business design, Trueo is a "fully on-chain decentralized prediction market with built-in yield-bearing properties." Market definitions, adjudication standards, and designated data sources are written on-chain at the time of creation. Users deposit USDC to mint the计价 token TYD (True Yield Dollar), an ERC-4626 vault token developed in collaboration with Yearn Finance. The officially set yield benchmark aims to match or even exceed the Aave USDC deposit rate on Base, thereby alleviating the cost of idle funds while users hold positions awaiting settlement.

Outcome adjudication relies on a multi-layered "optimistic oracle" mechanism, with the complete game-theoretic process divided into seven stages:

  • Initial proposal (Stage 0): Any user posts a bond (currently benchmarked at 250 TYD) to submit a settlement result, opening a 12-hour challenge period.
  • First dispute and council arbitration (Stage 1-2): If someone raises a dispute (also requiring a 250 TYD stake), the dispute is submitted to the Oracle Council for a ruling.
  • Token holder voting challenge (Stage 3-4): If there is still disagreement with the council's ruling, the bond can be raised to 750 TYD to initiate a second-level challenge, decided by a vote of all TRUE holders (also with a 12-hour buffer period).
  • Final ruling (Stage 5-6): If the dispute still cannot be reconciled, users holding or staking at least 250,000 TRUE can apply to trigger a final ruling, with 11 randomly selected high-reputation Attesters making the final decision.

The above bond amounts are set based on a snapshot when the market is initialized. This governance chain has gone through real on-chain battles: between April and May this year, a disputed market over "whether Polymarket will issue a token" sparked disagreement due to the launch of the pUSD test token. The Oracle Council initially ruled 3:2, but that result was subsequently overturned by a TRUE community vote and then by the final Attester, and the market was ultimately reset.

In February this year, Vitalik publicly expressed concern that the prediction market industry was "over-converging on unhealthy product forms—obsessed with short-term crypto price speculation and sports betting, things that have dopamine value but lack long-term meaning."

In addition, compared with the industry's common arbitration model that relies on token weighting and is easily captured by whale capital, Trueo attempts to use "randomly selected Attesters + private voting" to prevent collusion among large holders and financial hegemony, which also happens to align with his long-standing concerns about de-financializing oracles and censorship-resistant governance.

At a time when prediction markets have generally degenerated into short-term gambling and price speculation, this hardcore design leaning toward academic idealism may be the real key to winning over Ethereum's founder.

Token and Team: An Early Project That Started With Crowdfunding

The total supply of the TRUE token is fixed at 100 million, and the initial distribution is deeply tied to early participants:

  • 40.3%: allocated to Patron NFT holders (covering 15,071 Oracle Patron and 59 Truth Seeker);
  • 25.0%: belongs to the team and advisors, with a 2-year linear vesting period;
  • 12.5%: as incentives for TRUE/ETH liquidity on Base, released over 18 months;
  • 12.5%: used for oracle ecosystem development and strategic partnerships;
  • 7.5%: used for cold-start subsidies for new markets;
  • 2.2%: airdropped to genesis Attesters, core beta users, and early Polymarket community members.

On the team side, Trueo was formerly known as Truemarkets and was renamed due to trademark issues. Its initial funding mainly came from the public Patron NFT crowdfunding in November 2024 that raised more than $4 million.

The team currently still operates anonymously, and the official website does not disclose detailed team information, communicating externally only under the public identity "MilliΞ." In terms of long-term governance, the project plans to gradually introduce a composite model combining Snapshot voting, Oracle Council authorization, and "futarchy" (using prediction markets to assist governance), though the overall approach is still in the exploration stage.

Risk warning:

TRUE's current liquidity pool depth is only around $600,000, so a small amount of concentrated buying or selling can trigger violent price swings; there is indeed an ecosystem gap for Ethereum L1-native prediction markets, but the mainnet has relatively high interaction costs, which is also the main reason high-frequency prediction businesses have struggled to accumulate there; the specific timetable for mainnet deployment has not yet been determined, and whether the "next-generation oracle" can effectively resolve the adjudication friction exposed in the first half of the year remains to be verified; after the sentiment premium brought by celebrity attention gradually subsides, it remains to be seen whether Trueo can truly convert external attention into sustainable capital accumulation and real trading volume.
