Hackathon Overview

The Somnia Mini Games Hackathon, held from July 25 to August 11, 2025, marked Somnia's first collaboration with DoraHacks to showcase its EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain. The event attracted 203 developer registrations and ultimately resulted in 53 approved mini-game projects. Participants were encouraged to create sports competitions, betting experiences, and other Web 3 mini-games on the Somnia testnet.

The hackathon featured a variety of playable demo projects, including interactive sports games and on-chain betting mechanics. All projects leveraged Somnia's high throughput and sub-second transaction finality. Each qualified team shared a $5,000 USDC prize pool and gained exposure through the Somnia Quest, a platform designed to drive real user engagement and on-chain activity.

The event demonstrated Somnia's suitability for developing innovative, user-centric, and community-driven applications, and highlighted its ability to handle high-volume transactions for gaming and other real-time consumer services. The enthusiastic participation and diverse submissions also demonstrate the growing developer interest in Somnia and the significant potential of its infrastructure for Web 3 gaming.

The Somnia Awards recognize technical achievements in building and deploying fully functional, engaging mini-games on the Somnia testnet. Awards are given in two tiers, based on project impact, technical innovation, and effective use of blockchain features.

First Prize Winning Project

• Somnia Snake – A guessing game where users stake STT tokens, roll dice, and cash out before encountering an on-chain snake. The game leverages Somnia for provable fairness and real-time rewards.

• Infinite Quiz – An AI-powered quiz platform with integrated blockchain gamification. Players choose a quiz topic, stake STT tokens, and interact with a smart contract for dynamic payments.

• MindSweeper – A decentralized minesweeper game with provably fair mechanics, customizable risks, and token staking managed by secure smart contracts.

• Tank Defender On Somnia – A Unity-based Web 3 tower defense game with NFT gating, ERC 20 integration, and on-chain progress logging implemented via the Thirdweb SDK on the Somnia testnet.

• BlockSniper – An arcade game focused on mining a target block. It uses the Somnia network for transaction accuracy, prize pools, and user profile management.

• Catch That Coin – GameFi on Somnia – A GameFi project that combines NFT gating, STT/GEM token rewards, and spin-to-earn mechanics in a Unity-based Web 3 environment.

• Temple Run – GameFi on Somnia – An endless runner game with NFT gating and ERC 20 rewards, where players can earn tokens through in-game achievements on the Somnia testnet.

• Quack Shot – GameFi on Somnia – A duck shooting mini-game with NFT gated entry, GEM rewards, and the ability to convert on-chain game scores into STT tokens.

• WordGame – A word guessing game based on Farcaster where players stake STT and are rewarded based on speed and accuracy, fully deployed on Somnia.

• Chess – Decentralized chess with AI opponents, ELO rating system, and immutable game records through Somnia smart contracts.

• Somnia Horizon – A roguelike space shooter with decentralized leaderboards and auto-battle, using Somnia for score verification and leveling up.

• SkyAscent – A balloon navigation game as a Farcaster mini-app, offering competitive leaderboards and token incentives through Somnia.

• Somnia Zombie Smash – An arcade whack-a-mole game that implements NFT gating, VIP rewards, ERC 20 tokens, and point-to-token conversion mechanisms on Somnia.

• Somnia Spooky Dash – An arcade avoidance and collection game with NFT gating, ERC 20 tokens, and blockchain-powered score conversions.

• Somnia Bullseye Buddy – A dart roulette game that emphasizes accuracy, leveraging NFT gating, ERC 20 rewards, and on-chain redemption capabilities.

• Somnia Cowboy Quickshot – An arcade shooter with NFT gating and token incentives, integrating shooting targets and digital rewards on Somnia.

• mineSomnia – An on-chain minesweeper guessing game that leverages smart contracts to achieve provable fairness and instant, verifiable results.

• Somnia doodle – A platform jumping mini-game similar to Doodle Jump, offering blockchain-based SOM rewards and STT token exchange.

• Somnia Mech Battle – An arcade shooter developed in Unity with NFT gating, VIP membership, and GEM rewards, and secure token handling on Somnia.

• Helix Jump 3D – A Web 3 spinning tower game that rewards ERC-20 tokens through Somnia and Thirdweb SDK.

• Somnia Space Defender – A 2D space shooter game with play-to-earn SSD tokens, multiple difficulty levels, and on-chain score reporting.

• Ball-to-Ring – A color-matching Unity game that rewards player skill with ERC-20 tokens using the Somnia testnet and Thirdweb SDK.

• Best-Throw – An arcade throwing game with instant ERC-20 payments through on-chain scoring.

• Bongo Cat – A rhythm note game where players’ achievements can be verified on the Somnia blockchain.

• Adventurous-hail-Game – A Unity arcade game for sorting hailstones, offering ERC-20 rewards for accurate manipulation.

• BEAT HAMSTER – A Whack-A-Mole style game with transparent on-chain score tracking and redeemable token rewards.

• Somnia Racer – A 3D racing game with NFT cars, tournament functionality, and a global blockchain leaderboard.

• Memory Arena – A memory card game with blockchain score verification and token rewards for top players.

• Somnia Football – A football arcade game with integrated wallet support, blockchain-based game rewards, and verifiable scoring.

• OnchainVampireSurvivors – A roguelite survival game with blockchain leaderboards, VRF randomness, and social wallet integration.

• Somnia Mines – A Crash-style guessing game on Somnia that uses advanced smart contracts; please note that its front-end is unfinished and blockchain integration is limited.

• KILZ – A 2D zombie survival game developed with Phaser.js, offering $KILZ token rewards and on-chain leaderboards.

• Somnia Verse – A procedurally generated dungeon crawler with blockchain loot, enemy encounters, and $DGN token minting.

• RocketCandle – A physics-based puzzle game where you launch rockets to earn RocketFUEL tokens, powered by Somnia for trading.

• Some Gorillas – A coin flipping platform that implements provable fairness, NFT collectibles, and a “play and earn” mechanic using STT and $BANANA tokens.

• MortalCoin – A PvP cryptocurrency trading simulator where matches are resolved on-chain based on real-time trading profits and losses.

• Cosmic Rush – A spaceship racing game that uses on-chain AI automation, provably fair randomness, and instant payouts via Somnia.

• Somnia Arcade – A gaming platform that offers on-chain Minesweeper/Hi-Lo games and uses commit-reveal contracts for verifiable randomness.

• Somnia Hand Cricket – A blockchain handball and cricket game that integrates AI, on-chain leaderboards, and smart contract interactions.

• Colorsnap – A puzzle matching game where all actions and states are immutably recorded on-chain, enabling verifiable strategies.

• Speedster – An arcade game with multiple modes, on-chain score tracking, power-ups, and transparent leaderboards.

• Street Fighter – A fighting game prototype with customizable fighters, a tournament mode, and scalable combat logic.

• CosmicChicken – A chicken-themed game that utilizes on-chain betting, high-stakes rounds, and provably fair outcomes.

• Catch Goofy – A quick-win style guessing game that uses Chainlink VRF and ERC-20 for betting and achieves on-chain fair gameplay.

• Diamond Miner – A 2D mining game with wallet support, on-chain rewards, and Phaser 3 technology.

• SOMNATCH – A competitive multiplayer casual game with real-time action, token rewards, and on-chain state management.

• Somnia Mines – A Web 3 minesweeper game that combines classic gameplay with blockchain-based payments and wallet integration.

• 512 Gamers: Somnia Gaming Hub – An open-source mini-game hub offering AI-powered creation tools and a tokenized developer ecosystem.

• Somnia Battleship on chain – A decentralized naval battleship game that supports trustless multiplayer battles and automatic prize distribution through smart contracts.

• Mine & Escape – An on-chain mining game with leaderboards, progression system, and soul-bound NFTs for tokenized rewards.

• Somnia Minihub – A no-code platform for creating blockchain games, combining AI-generated mini-games and smart contract deployment.

• ChainClash – A blockchain rock-paper-scissors game with support for ETH staking and automatic payouts for streak winners.

• Insomnus – A pixel art style tribal survival Roguelite game that offers on-chain asset ownership and progression, focusing on user entertainment.
