On January 11 this year, Jambo officially announced the launch of the blockchain mobile phone Jambo Phone. At the beginning of the announcement, this hardware device did not create any waves. However, a month later on February 15, another news changed everything. Jambo Announced that it will cooperate with the Aptos Foundation to sell this mobile phone. This mobile phone, priced at $99, is gold-plated in place.
Although the first generation of Solana Saga won the worst mobile phone in 2023, because the airdrop value it brought has far exceeded the price of the phone itself, this mobile phone was directly sold out and became a recognized golden shovel. The second generation of Solana Mobile is officially Based on this expected hype, more than 60,000 units were sold in three weeks with just a picture with a few letters on it without even making a PPT, and this one was priced at US$450. Futures that need to wait until 2025 for mass production. In comparison, Jambo, which costs only $99 and is shipping now, is a steal...ummm...right?
To add some background information, Jambo is headquartered in Congo. Its core product is a Web3 portal focusing on Learn Play Earn. In 2022, it has completed a US$7.5 million seed round and a US$30 million Series A financing. Investors include Top institutions such as Paradigm, Coinbase Ventures and Pantera Capital. Although the currency price performance of Aptos has been slightly weaker than that of its direct competitor Sui in the past six months, TVL and currency prices have been catching up in the past month, and the acceleration time point is similar to the node where the two officially announced their cooperation, which is very subtle.
The 200-word purchase process is omitted here (I believe you may not care about the omitted part after reading it), bang, you have the mobile phone. First, simply open the box and answer a few questions about the configuration of the mobile phone itself.
What kind of mobile phone is Jambo Phone?

When the phone is not turned on, the texture is quite plastic but not particularly bad. However, the inconsistent coloring of the card slot and the middle frame, as well as the large seams caused by the workmanship, can always remind you that this phone should be worth 100 yuan, or more accurately. It is a product at a price point that should not exceed 500 yuan. If you do this psychological preparation in advance, the thick front chin should not be so difficult to accept.

In addition to the main body of the phone, the box also comes with an airbag silicone cover that comes with free shipping, a 5 V2 A very plastic charging head, and a cable that looks and feels of poor quality. There is also the matter of a mobile phone case. This is worthy of praise. It would be too difficult to get a case for this niche model if you don’t send it directly. My Saga is still running naked to this day.

There’s not much to say about the system itself. It’s a pure native Android 13 system with not many pre-installed apps. It looks a bit like a Web3 phone. It does have a Petra wallet, but I’ll elaborate on this “but” later.

Because there are no hardware configuration details of this machine in the official promotional materials, I took a look at the specific configuration first. Unisoc’s T 606 processor, 4 G RAM, and 64 G ROM. If you have no idea about T 606, Simply put, it is at the same level as the Snapdragon 625, which is a mid-range chip released in 2016. In 2016, Bitcoin cost 8,000 dollars, and Ethereum finally broke through 1 US dollar in January of that year... ...
One more thing about the T 606 chip. The 8 cores include two A 75 large cores and 6 A 55 small cores. The A 75 large core is already available on the mid-to-low-end chip Snapdragon 690 released by Qualcomm in 2020. It is at the level of small cores. It is self-evident how disastrous it would be to use a performance level that was barely passable eight years ago and use it now. After all, WeChat had just become popular that year. Now go and look at the performance on your phone. How much space does WeChat occupy? 10 G? 30G?

In terms of specific data, Entertainment Rabbit ran a score of 240,000 (the current flagship score of the Android camp has exceeded 2.1 million), Geekbench 6 scored 381 single-core and 1357 multi-core, 3D Mark Wild Life scored 420 points, and the average frame The rate is 2.52, the main one can score runs, nothing more. For comparison, the Redmi Note 12 released last year with a price of 800 yuan uses a low-end processor such as Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. Geekbench 6 has a single-core score of 844 and a multi-core score of 2087. You can calculate the multiple by yourself. As for the flagship The difference between the machines is a bit cruel, so I won’t release it.

The screen is a 6.52-inch 1600*720 light-up IPS screen with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, light colors, pixel density of 269 PPI, memory LPDDR 4 x dual channel, rear dual camera, main camera 13 million, secondary camera The camera is a standard 300,000-pixel lens. I haven’t checked the exact sensor used. It’s enough for scanning, but don’t ask too much, so I won’t post a sample photo here.
The battery capacity is 4900 mAh, and the battery life is relatively solid. After I got this machine and tried it and tested it, and I didn’t know what to do with it, it lost more than 20% of the battery in a whole day. I used the battery of the Red Magic 9 pro. No mobile phone that is so big has ever experienced this feeling. It seems that as long as the phone is so bad that you dont want to touch it, the battery life can be improved several times (bushi).
At this point, the situation about the hardware part should be almost explained. In the process of writing the unboxing, I happened to find a public model product AGM Z 1 that was launched last year. This phone is similar to the Jambo Phone in many aspects such as processor and mold. The same, but the memory combination is 8+128, the screen supports 90 Hz high refresh rate, the main camera is 50 million pixels, and it also supports side fingerprint unlocking, which Jambo does not have, and the price of AGM Z 1 is 599 yuan... ...

Is Jambo Phone a qualified Web3 phone?
We have almost talked about the mobile phone part of this mobile phone. Lets get back to the topic. How high is the concentration of Web3, or Aptos?
Let me give you a conclusion first. No matter what level your expectations are, you may be disappointed.
First of all, the components of Aptos in the pre-installed applications are limited to Petra Wallet, and this version is an ordinary Google Play version application without any customization. In addition, there is no so-called DApp application market on the phone, and only the native Google is built-in. Play.
After logging in for the first time and creating or importing an Aptos wallet, no credentials will be sent to the wallet. Simply put, even if you log in to your own wallet on this device, it will not produce any identifiable traces on the chain, and this is The so-called airdrop expectation is undoubtedly very fatal, because as long as you have any ordinary Android phone, you can download the exact same Petra wallet application, and you can do everything that the Jambo Phone can do.
As for Jambo, the Web3 super application, there has been a problem with the wallet initialization in the built-in application version of the phone. The author has also seen more than one person reporting similar problems on the X platform. Currently, there is no official response to this problem. make any response. In terms of limited testable functions, this Jambo application version should not have any customized components and is completely consistent with the ordinary Jambo mobile application.

The current built-in tasks of Jambo are basically very Web2 actions such as software downloads, social media following/likes, etc. The method for task verification is to submit screenshots...

The situation of other built-in applications is not optimistic either. There are basically two situations: 1. They are stuck and cannot be opened; 2. They have nothing to do with Web3. Even if it can be used normally, there are no customized components, such as a small fox wallet.
In comparison, Solana Saga will send SBT NFT to the bound Solana wallet address when activating the device, and this is the most important on-chain certificate for subsequent airdrops. In addition, the mobile phone is embedded with a customized DApp application market, and it is directly at the system level. With a seed library embedded, the wallet also implements a system-level interactive experience. SBT NFT Holder can directly be used as an airdrop determination condition. In addition, the customized DApp application market means that Saga users can download customized applications developed for the project, and the airdrops of Bonk and Chonky are both issued in this way.
In a word, at this point in time and this system version, there is really no airdrop possibility for Jambo Phone.
The only possibility is to hope that after a major system update in the future, Jambo and the Aptos team can really make some customized applications. But whether this hope can come true is really a big question mark. .
summary
Solana Mobile Saga is actually not the first Web3 concept phone, but the previous Web3 phones launched by HTC and Vertu were not successful. This is just because of the outstanding performance of the Solana ecosystem in the past six months and Solana Mobiles game design Innovation has pushed Saga to a level that far exceeds the hardware value of the phone itself.
But this thing that doesn’t seem too complicated and can be copied, Jambo has proved with practical actions that not everyone can do it well. I believe we will see more so-called Web3 phones in the future. Whether these devices can also become golden shovels and whether they are enough to obtain the premium price bonus of Web3, the answer is obviously not an absolute YES.
Finally, I hope that Jambo and the Aptos Foundation can provide more empowerment in subsequent updates of the Jambo Phone, otherwise this terrible phone will just sit in the cabinet and alarm bells ringing.
