On January 25, Doodles, the leading NFT collectible, released an open letter to the community, which previewed some key developments in its new series Doodles 2.

Doodle 2: A new attempt at composability
Plans for Doodles 2 were first announced last June.
Unlike the purely static Doodles series of the first generation, Doodles 2 will be a new "dynamic" series. Specifically, Doodles 2 will allow users to freely choose the body shape, skin color, hair color, expression and other characteristics of the basic NFT, and then use "wearable devices" with different rarity levels to freely customize the appearance characteristics of the NFT, and finally share them with social media and other integrated realities.
This combination with a high degree of freedom means that Doodles 2 users can create many unique NFTs, thus laying the foundation for "letting more people join the Doodles world". That's why when the team first announced plans for Doodles 2, they said the series would expand from an initial 10,000 avatars to millions.
According to the content of the open letter, the chapter of Doodles 2 will kick off on January 31 this year. At that time, the Dooplicator props that were airdropped to all Doodles holders last year (need to be claimed manually, some holders have not yet claimed) will be activated, and users can use this props to "extract" from the first generation of Doodles that can be used in Doodles 2 , which will also be some of the rarest wearables in Doodles 2.

About a month after this, another small prop, Genesis Box, which was sold through auction last year (final price 0.508 ETH), will also be "opened", and the second batch of "wearable devices" will be cast.

Why is Flow?
As early as last June when the Doodles 2 plan was first announced, the team made it clear that the new work would not be based on Ethereum, but it was not confirmed which blockchain it would be.
At the end of last year, Doodles founder Jordan Castro (Poopie) stated in the community that he had found a perfect home for Doodles 2 by exploring other blockchains and Layer 2 networks in the past year, but did not disclose more information at the time.
It wasn't until the release of the open letter that the community finally knew that this "perfect destination" referred to Flow.
However, the market doesn't seem to be particularly enthusiastic about Doodles' choice. According to Blur data, after the release of this open letter with the important notice of Doodles 2, the floor price of the first-generation Doodles has dropped to a certain extent. Stabilize and amplify the trend.
In addition, some community users also expressed their dissatisfaction under the tweets that released the open letter. Some people listed data pointing out that the NFT transaction volume on the Flow chain is not even as good as Cardano, and some even said bluntly, "This is the worst news I can think of."

In response to these doubts from the community, Poopie responded on his personal Twitter, saying that the choice of Flow is mainly based on three considerations.
One is that Flow has a very smooth deposit experience, which helps more users get in touch with Doodles easily. Newcomers can register a wallet through Gmail, and then use a credit card to purchase NFT with a few simple clicks. On this point, the success of NBA Top Shot is an excellent example.
The second is that there is no handling fee for transactions on the Flow chain (actually borne by the platform), and the vision of Doodles 2 is to allow users to try more combinations and create more. This feature of Flow means that users can combine and create infinitely regardless of the cost of handling fees.
The third is that the programming language of Flow can help Doodles 2 realize the wearable "device" on the chain.
It's for these reasons that Flow is what the Doodles team calls the "perfect partner."

Maybe it's an opportunity for both parties
The bear market of NFT has lasted for quite a long time. As the winners of the last round of bull market, in order to consolidate their head position, blue-chip NFTs including Doodles have never stopped their own development.
However, due to multi-layered reasons (such as the threshold of operations on the Ethereum chain, and even the entry threshold after the value of NFT itself rises), all NFT projects will encounter major obstacles when trying to reach more audiences. Based on this background, Doodles 2’s approach of using Flow to reduce costs and expand quantity may not be an attempt to break the circle in another way. Conversely, for Flow, which has been unable to wait for the next hit app after the gradual decline of NBA Top Shot, the entry of Doodles 2 will also be a great opportunity for the ecosystem.
Whether the cooperation between the two can usher in a "win-win" will become a very special point of view on the NFT track in the future.
