What if you forget the subscription model of streaming and buy an NFT token to get access to TV shows?
“Stoner Cats” is one such new format cartoon TV show Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are calling, about a group of cats that fly leaves. This NFT work will go on sale on July 26 at 2pm PDT.
They posted part of the manifesto to their website: "At 'Stoner Cats' we believe storytellers don't have to bow to the big media machine, they all deserve an outlet where they can be valued and supported." So we’re flipping that model on its head, using NFTs to test a new architecture that can connect storytellers directly with their audiences and essentially decentralize content production.”
Stars who have voiced cat characters on the show include Kutcher, Chris Rock and Jane Fonda, and Ethereum cryptocurrency co-creator Vitalik Buterin also voiced a character on the show.
As she recently explained to Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, Kunis wants a transparent system, so is creating this series of animations as her NFT creation. "I make content for TV independently, and I'm going to do an animated series for TV, but there's so much content, and once I sell the content, I have little control over the content, so I want to bring content ownership back to the artist."
It's a "touching story about cats being weirdly high," while decentralizing the entertainment industry, the team explains on their website. However, this is still just an experiment. To watch the first five minutes of the episode, viewers must purchase an NFT, which is a digital artwork of a character in the show. It can also be called a ticket to a streaming show.
According to Coindesk, the NFT will be sold for 0.35 ETH, roughly $814 at the time of publication.
