According to the official description of the v1.5.0 version, this updated version mainly includes the contents of FIP-007 and FIP010, the purpose of which is to improve the system performance of Filecoin and reduce the gas fee consumption to a certain extent.

The FIP-007 proposal mainly improves the performance of Filecoin HAMT and AMT, that is, optimizes the data structure and access of HAMT/AMT in terms of performance and security through three smaller independent proposals.

The FIP-010 proposal adopts off-chain WindowPoSt verification, which means that WindowPoSt can be uploaded to the chain without accepting verification, and off-chain verifiers can call DisputeWindowedPoSt for verification.

5 FIP issues on Filecoin's non-renewable sectors

The life cycle of a sector is 180-540 days, and it faces the problem of renewal after expiration. Since Filecoin has not been restarted from the test network to the main network, the first sector of Filecoin will be counted from August 25, 2020, and theoretically no sector will expire until February 21, 2021. However, because there are very few sectors that contain orders in the sectors encapsulated by the Filecoin network, most people will not modify this part of the code to manually set the expiration time of the sector, so the expiration time of most sector packages is 540 days. That is, it will start on February 16, 2022.

Because v1 sectors cannot be renewed, but v1.1 sectors can be renewed, that is, all sectors can be renewed before the official mandatory upgrade to v1.2.0, and only v1.1 sectors can be renewed after the forced upgrade ( The v1.2.0 upgrade time is from November 25th to 28th, so all sectors encapsulated before the 25th are v1, and sectors encapsulated after the 28th are all v1.1).

Regarding the non-renewable issue of the v1 sector, it has caused extensive discussions in the Filecoin community. Recently, officials have also realized the seriousness of this problem, and initiated a discussion on the non-renewable sector on Github. Most community members believe that the v1 sector can be extended like the v8 sector. However, this topic has not yet been formally upgraded to a FIP proposal.
