Genesis Mining Uses Excess Bitcoin Mining Heat to Heat Greenhouses

Bitcoin mining company Genesis Mining has revealed a new pilot project that aims to use excess heat generated during production to heat produce greenhouses in Sweden, according to a press release published Tuesday.

According to the announcement, the Sweden-based project has been in development for over a year. The goal is not only to recover excess heat energy, but it also supports local government plans to increase self-sufficiency in food production.

Mattias Vesterlund, a senior researcher at the Swedish Research Institute (RISE), explained: "A 1 MW encrypted data center will be able to increase local self-sufficiency by up to 8% with competitive products on the market."

In addition to Genesis Mining and its philanthropic subsidiary Hashpower For Science, the project has received support from Systemair, Lulea University of Technology, RISE, Boden Business Agency and the local government.

"This project is exciting because of the opportunity to contribute to the expansion of the food industry while meeting national energy efficiency targets. This is the first of many projects under the Energy Symbiosis program and hopefully the results show that it is very possible It will be scaled up to large-scale commercial production," added Nils Lindh, director of data center development at the Boden Business Agency.

During the project's pilot run, Genesis Mining created special bitcoin mining heat storage containers that were connected to the greenhouses via a custom duct system used to transfer excess energy.
