TON no longer stands for Telegram Open Network

TON used to stand for "Telegram Open Network", but now the name change also means that the social giant is leaving the blockchain field. In the future, the project will be simply called "The Open Network."

Telegram officially terminated participation in the Telegram Open Network in mid-May 2020. Although the Telegram version of TON was terminated, it also launched a free version of TON and new TON projects.

TON’s white paper reveals that the project’s name has two different meanings: Telegram Open Network and Open Network.

In this 23-page white paper published in 2018:

"By 2021, TON's original vision and architecture will be implemented and deployed. After that, TON will remove the Telegram element in the name and become an open network. From then on, the TON Foundation will maintain the continuous development of the TON blockchain .”

The Telegram Open Network was originally designed by Telegram CTO and co-founder Nikolai Durov, at the same time as his brother (and Telegram CEO) Pavel Durov. )work together. With the abandonment of Telegram, the word "Telegram" disappeared from every aspect of TON.

In a May 12 statement, Pavel Durov made it clear that other TON-based projects have nothing to do with Telegram:
