The Proof of Stake Alliance (POSA) has revealed that it is taking key steps to improve the regulatory space around the “Staking-as-a-Service” (STaaS) market, including dialogue with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

According to the announcement, POSA met with the SEC to discuss the increasing adoption of the proof-of-stake (PoS) protocol, which emerged after BTC’s proof-of-work consensus protocol and is considered more efficient and scalable.

Staking allows token holders to earn interest on the amount of tokens locked to the native network, supporting the overall efficiency of the network.

POSA submitted a white paper containing a legal analysis by international law firm Paul Hastings LLP and said a "conversation on legal analysis" is ongoing.

Progress reported at SEC meeting

The meeting between POSA and SEC was held in February this year, with the purpose of popularizing PoS technology to SEC and discussing the regulatory framework for STaaS products.

POSA previewed a set of industry standards aimed at addressing potential regulatory concerns, including requiring STaaS providers to refrain from providing investment advice, avoiding the use of financial industry terminology (such as "interest," "dividend" or "earnings"), focusing on network Security and participation, and avoid guarantees about reward amounts.
