Calibra, the newly announced cryptocurrency subsidiary of social media giant Facebook, has registered with the U.S. anti-money laundering watchdog, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

Calibra, which will provide a digital wallet for the Libra cryptocurrency, registered with FinCEN as a money services business (MSB) in February this year, with an address in Menlo Park, California.

Calibra may also be required to obtain a state money transmission license in each state in which it operates, depending on a particular state's licensing requirements and Calibra's activities in that state.

“Facebook created Calibra, a regulated subsidiary, to ensure the separation of social and financial data and to build and operate services on its behalf on the Libra network,” read the company’s June 18 white paper.
