Financial institutions expect the Fed may raise rates by 25 basis points in December
Odaily News: The Federal Reserve will announce its October interest rate decision at 2 AM Beijing time on the 29th. The market widely believes that the Fed may choose to hold steady at this meeting, with the probability of a rate hike currently priced in at only 9.4%. At the September meeting, the Fed raised rates by 25 basis points, the first hike in more than three years. However, the rate hike did not ease price pressures, with the U.S. Consumer Price Index rising 3.7% year-over-year in September, higher than August's 3.4%.
Analysts believe that from a risk-reward perspective, keeping rates unchanged in October may be the more appropriate outcome. Currently, major financial institutions including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, UBS, and HSBC all expect the Fed to raise rates by 25 basis points in December.
