Trump expected to appoint former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton as White House "AI czar

Odaily News: According to two people familiar with the matter, U.S. President Trump is expected to appoint current Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as the White House's new AI affairs chief ("AI czar"), with an announcement potentially coming as early as Friday local time. White House officials responded by saying that any personnel appointment will be announced directly by Trump himself, and that related reports before a formal announcement are "unfounded speculation."

Clayton is expected to continue serving as Director of National Intelligence. Clayton previously served as Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and led the SEC for most of Trump's first presidential term. Last month, Trump announced plans to establish an "AI Force" and appoint an AI affairs chief to address regulatory discussions surrounding the rapid development of AI; Trump also previously told Axios that Clayton is a suitable candidate for the position.
