It remains unclear what triggered this market volatility or whether Japanese authorities actually entered the market. The magnitude of this fluctuation appears smaller than the moves observed after previous rounds of intervention.

Hirofumi Suzuki, chief foreign exchange strategist at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, said: "It's still unclear whether this is intervention. However, as reports suggest, authorities may have shifted their intervention strategy and tactics, potentially no longer signaling intervention in advance.
