Energy Prices Fall, Switzerland’s Inflation Rate Dips Slightly
Odaily Planet Daily News Switzerland's inflation rate fell slightly in June, marking the first decline since energy prices surged following the outbreak of the Iran war. According to data released by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office on Thursday, the annual inflation rate in June stood at 0.5%, down from 0.6% in April and May. The previous two months had seen the highest inflation levels since 2024.
Data shows that oil product prices rose by 15% year-on-year in June but declined from May levels. Air transport prices also fell, as this category is particularly sensitive to global energy price fluctuations. Meanwhile, hotel and car rental prices increased. This modest decline in inflation aligns with the view of Swiss National Bank Chairman Schlegel. At last month's monetary policy meeting, he stated that despite the energy price shock caused by the Middle East conflict, medium-term inflationary pressures remain broadly stable. (Jinshi)
