Odaily Odaily reports that Jane Foley, an analyst at Rabobank, said speculation is rising that Japanese authorities may intervene in the yen on Friday, taking advantage of the thin trading during the US holiday. In fact, it might be more surprising if they take no action at all.
She stated that further intervention seems inevitable, but intervention alone is unlikely to be sufficient to change the market's negative view of the yen. The yen's weakness is partly due to a stronger US dollar, but the rise in Japanese stock prices may prompt foreign investors to strengthen hedging measures against the risk of a yen depreciation.
