Odaily reported that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell sidestepped questions about whether the Fed might raise interest rates at its July meeting. "I hope that when we meet in four weeks, we can have a thorough 'family debate,'" he said. "When we meet behind closed doors, we will have intense discussions. But beyond that, I have no further information to share."
Powell made these remarks at the European Central Bank's annual policy symposium in Sintra, Portugal; this is his first public appearance since last month's inaugural Fed press conference. Since then, investors have begun to anticipate more rate hikes from the Fed, but the market currently sees less than a 50% chance of a rate hike this month. (Jinshi)
