Atreides Founder: DRAM Remains the Most Critical AI Bottleneck, Expected to Account for 30%-40% of Data Center CapEx by 2027
Odaily Odaily星球日报讯 Gavin Baker, founder and Chief Investment Officer of Atreides Management, discussed the "bottleneck" issues in the AI race during a recent appearance on the All In podcast.
Gavin stated that DRAM has always been the most important bottleneck. While a group of people on social media focus intensely on this issue, searching on Claude to find obscure Japanese materials companies, the truly critical bottleneck is DRAM, because memory capacity and bandwidth underpin the performance of all AI models.
The development of companies like CXMT (ChangXin Memory Technologies) might offer Apple an alternative to solve high-cost problems; they will meet the market demand for consumer-grade DRAM to a certain extent. However, for the DRAM required by AI servers, only three companies can produce it (SK Hynix, Samsung, Micron)... By 2027, DRAM could account for 30% to 40% of all capex spending by hyperscale data centers.
