SlowMist founder Yu Xian: Zcash's privacy model is more easily accepted by regulators, but Monero remains more "hardcore" in terms of strong privacy.
Odaily Planet Daily reports that SlowMist founder Yu Xian stated in an article that while some have recently claimed that "a large proportion of Zcash transactions can be traced," this is not new. Zcash's privacy model has always employed an "optional privacy" design: z-addresses offer strong privacy, while t-addresses are transparent and traceable.
Yu Xian points out that this is why Zcash is more acceptable to regulators than Monero, which defaults to strong privacy. Currently, most Zcash addresses used by mainstream platforms start with "t", which reflects that "the group with a strong demand for privacy is extremely small, while platforms need to cater to regulators more."
He believes that Monero is still a more "hardcore" privacy asset in terms of privacy strength, but Zcash's design strikes a better balance between privacy and regulation, and "may have a wider path."
Yu Xian further elaborated with an analogy: Bitcoin is similar to HTTP, Zcash is similar to a coexistence of HTTP/HTTPS, and Monero is like pure HTTPS.
