UK FCA to lift crypto ETN ban for retail investors next week, but ETFs remain restricted
2025-10-04 07:12

Odaily Planet Daily reported that the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) will lift the ban on retail investors purchasing crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs) starting next Wednesday (October 8). The ban came into effect in 2019. According to the FCA's announcement, only crypto ETNs listed on "FCA-approved, UK-based investment exchanges" will be available to retail investors. Unlike ETNs (debt securities linked to crypto assets), crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are still prohibited from being offered to retail investors in the UK. The FCA stated that its current regulatory framework "needs to be updated" before considering opening crypto ETFs to retail investors. (Cointelegraph)
