Christie's closes NFT digital art department and merges it into contemporary art category
6hours ago
According to Odaily Planet Daily, British auction house Christie's has announced the closure of its NFT digital art division, with the company set to continue selling digital art through a broader range of 20th/21st century art categories. This restructuring includes the layoffs of two employees, including the Vice President of Digital Art, but at least one digital art specialist will remain. Industry analysts believe this move may be related to the global art market downturn, with global art sales expected to decline by 12% to $57 billion in 2024, and auction house sales, both public and private, falling by 20% year-on-year to $23 billion.
