Odaily News John Thune, a Republican senator from South Dakota, was elected Senate Majority Leader in 2025. Thune currently serves on the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for taxation and revenue. He co-sponsored a 2022 cryptocurrency bill called the Digital Commodity Consumer Protection Act (DCCPA) with Democratic Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, and Republican Senator John Boozman of Arkansas, which aims to provide a legal definition for digital commodities and bring their trading under the supervision of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). In addition, he also supports the repeal of accounting rules SAB 121 for crypto assets and promotes regulatory reforms in the crypto industry.
