Sources familiar with the matter: Harris' team is considering two candidates to replace SEC Chairman Gary Gensler

Odaily News Vice President Kamala Harris’ transition team is reviewing candidates to replace Gary Gensler as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), according to two people familiar with the deliberations. Two possible replacements, Professor Chris Brummer of Georgetown Law School and Erica Williams, chair of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), are said to be more optimistic about cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin than Gensler. Harris has neither publicly nor privately committed to replacing Gensler, and it is uncertain to what extent she would consider Brummer, Williams or other potential candidates. For now, with Harris’s short tenure as a candidate and other policy issues pending, her team is more focused on voting. A person familiar with the matter said: "It is not clear who the popular candidate is at the moment, and the Harris campaign is worried that if it shows too much positivity about cryptocurrency before the election, it will lose the votes of progressive voters who think cryptocurrency is a 'scam', while not winning actual new voters for her." A spokesperson for Harris' transition team said: "The transition team will not make any personnel selections before the election. Instead, we focus on building the necessary infrastructure to prepare for the inauguration."
