L2 is not restricted by L1 and can try different execution environments (and many other things) while benefiting from Ethereum's huge network effect. This makes Ethereum a 'black hole' for innovation. In the past, when people wanted to build non-EVM protocols, they had to enter another L1. Now they can stay on the track of Ethereum and experiment to their heart's content. Of course, most of these experiments may not get enough attention, but the key is that we can now conduct these experiments in the Ethereum ecosystem - no longer causing developers and users to flow out to other ecosystems because of non-EVM attempts. I am optimistic that the Ethereum ecosystem is a hotbed of innovation and experimentation in the crypto field."
