US judge bars SBF proposed witnesses from testifying in October trial
2023-09-22 00:47
Odaily News U.S. Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan on Thursday granted the Justice Department’s motion to prevent all witnesses proposed by SBF from testifying in the October trial. The SBF defense team had previously hoped to call seven people to testify, including British barrister Lawrence Akka, consulting company executives Thomas Bishop and Joseph Pimbley, data analysis and forensics expert Brian Kim, Capital University School of Law law professor Bradley Smith, and University of Michigan assistant professor Andrew Di Wu. The U.S. Department of Justice objected, citing reasons including a lack of clarity about what the witnesses would discuss and their unfitness to testify in a U.S. criminal trial. Judge Kaplan agreed with all of the Justice Departments objections but said the defense could try to call Bishop or Kim to respond to questions from Justice Department witness Peter Easton, an FBI agent. Prosecutors plan to call Peter Easton to testify about customer deposits based on an analysis of FTX data. (CoinDesk)
