Horizen plans to deprecate the mainchain shielded pool, and ZEN will no longer be considered a privacy coin.
2023-06-28 03:48
Odaily News: The Horizen community has recently approved ZenIP 42204 to deprecate the Horizen main chain shielded pool. After deprecation, all privacy features will be removed from the Horizen main chain at the consensus level. This means that ZEN will no longer be a privacy coin.

Horizen states that the purpose of deprecating the Horizen main chain shielded pool is to ensure the use of privacy technology in a correct and sustainable manner, in order to mitigate regulatory threats.

Horizen points out that the current regulatory environment presents challenges to the accessibility and adoption of privacy cryptocurrencies. Supporting privacy features at the main chain level is not the sole way for the Horizen ecosystem to provide privacy functionalities. Horizen's mission is to ensure data integrity and privacy freedom by implementing real-world use cases. The privacy vision of Horizen relies on a secure and decentralized main chain that supports Horizen's sidechain platform, focusing on more scalable and resilient data privacy. Deprecating the main chain shielded pool aims to reduce the risks to the Horizen vision.

The deprecation of the Horizen main chain shielded pool will be implemented as part of the upcoming mandatory software upgrade of ZEN 4.1. The testnet will deprecate in August this year, followed by the mainnet deprecation in September.

According to previous reports, Binance stated that it has revised its categorization in order to comply with local regulations and decided to cancel the delisting plans for 12 privacy tokens including XMR, ZEC, and ZEN in Europe. "After carefully considering feedback from our community and several projects, we have modified the categorization of privacy coins on our platform to comply with regulatory requirements within the European Union."
