Odaily Planet Daily News: The Central Bank of Brazil disclosed that in the first half of 2026, Brazil's crypto asset purchases reached 14.68 billion USD, a 135% increase from 6.24 billion USD in the first half of 2025. The statistical scope includes transactions of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins processed by registered Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs).

In June, Brazil's crypto asset purchases were 2.54 billion USD, higher than the 1.48 billion USD in June 2025. Stablecoin purchases in May approached 2.632 billion USD, a 158% increase compared to May 2025. Fernando Rocha, head of the statistics department at the Central Bank of Brazil, stated that the country's crypto asset market has passed its initial stage and is expanding, exploring application scenarios.

Fernando Rocha stated that dollar-pegged stablecoins are driving demand growth, with their demand share exceeding 90%. These stablecoins can be used for payments and cross-border settlements. The Central Bank of Brazil classifies VASPs as Class 3, and after the regulations take effect in January 2027, related institutions must comply with the same requirements as securities brokers, securities distributors, and foreign exchange brokerage companies.
