韩国拟明年向AI等战略产业主权财富基金注资超7亿美元

2026-08-12 00:42

The head of the innovation growth office at South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance, Min Kyung-sup, said on Tuesday that the country expects to deploy between 600 billion and 1 trillion won (approximately $707 million) in new funds to a sovereign wealth fund targeting strategic industries such as AI next year. The final investment amount could exceed initial expectations, depending on which targets are identified and their funding needs. Min Kyung-sup stated that there are currently no plans for the fund to directly invest in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

In July this year, the South Korean government announced the creation of a new "strategic industry investment account" under the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), with initial capital of no less than 20 trillion won (approximately 94 billion RMB), targeting areas including AI, semiconductors, data centers, and core companies in overseas supply chains. The "Korean version of the sovereign wealth fund" is scheduled to be officially established and operational next year. Min Kyung-sup said the fund will also target robotics, energy, batteries, and grid infrastructure, with nuclear energy, space, and quantum technology also under consideration. (Jin Shi)
