THORChain's unexpected pause delays money laundering process of stolen Binance funds
According to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, on the morning of October 31 (ET), a chain reorganization occurred on Ethereum, causing the cross-chain protocol THORChain to mistakenly issue a double refund to a user who deposited 10 ETH, triggering an emergency pause. This pause shut down swap functionality across most of THORChain's cross-chain bridges for all users, including North Korean money launderers, inadvertently delaying the laundering process of a large amount of stolen Binance funds. THORChain's status interface shows that transactions on 12 of its 13 listed chains remain paused, while outbound signing remains enabled on most chains.
