Iran: After US Violates Memorandum of Understanding, 60-Day Deadline Has "Completely Lost Its Meaning"

Odaily News: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei stated that after the United States violated the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington on June 18, the so-called "60-day deadline" no longer holds any meaning. Baghaei said: "There is no mention of a '60-day deadline' in any provision of the memorandum of understanding, and the Islamic Republic of Iran never formulates policies under pressure, ultimatums, or time constraints."

He noted that the memorandum originally set a 60-day period for negotiations on two topics: "lifting sanctions" and "nuclear issues." If no agreement was reached by then, the deadline could have been extended; however, because the United States "seriously and extensively violated" the agreement just weeks after it was signed, the negotiations never began. He added: "Therefore, the so-called 60-day deadline has completely become meaningless." (Jin Shi)
