Odaily Planet Daily News: Cryptocurrency market maker Wintermute plans to invest approximately $1 billion over the next five years in AI infrastructure and high-frequency trading systems, while expanding into equities, commodities, forex, and prediction markets. The company aims to increase the share of non-crypto revenue to over 50% by the end of 2027.
Wintermute founder and CEO Evgeny Gaevoy stated that the company plans to fund the investment through retained earnings. Wintermute's average daily trading volume this year is approximately $10 billion, down from about $15 billion last year; non-crypto business currently accounts for roughly 10% of revenue.
The investment projects will cover computing power, storage, network, and data center infrastructure to support quantitative strategies that rely on large-scale datasets and continuous training and retraining of models. Wintermute has expanded into exchange-traded funds, real-world asset perpetual futures, and prediction markets.
Wintermute's US affiliate recently completed broker-dealer registration, allowing it to trade stocks and stock options for its own account and serve as an authorized participant for exchange-traded products. The registration provides a path for the firm to enter regulated securities markets. (Bitcoin.com News)
