With the hype surrounding the upcoming Metaverse, ethereum-based crypto game The Sandbox has emerged as one of the early contenders in the space. To encourage the growth of Metaverse projects both in and out of the gaming world, The Sandbox has launched an accelerator program to invest in and mentor startups.

Along with global venture accelerator Brinc, The Sandbox is committing $50 million to help up to 100 startups build an open, interoperable Metaverse. The program plans to work with 30 to 40 startups per year for three years.
It will be added as a dedicated track to the existing Launchpad Luna alliance established by Animoca Brands and Brinc in 2021. In December, with its accelerator eyeing the shift to Web3, Brinc closed a $30 million Series B round led by Animoca Brands.
While The Sandbox is leading the way, startups don't have to be built in the gaming world. The goal of the initiative is not just to bring in creators to develop metaverse experiences for their own games, and it doesn't even focus specifically on the Ethereum blockchain.
Instead, it’s aimed at the broader crypto ecosystem—builders looking to develop interoperable platforms and components that work together in an open metaverse. The three-month online program will include investment coaching to help projects discover market readiness and network with partners, investors and influencers.
However, there are Sandbox-centric incentives as well. The program will make an equity investment worth $150,000 to $250,000 in each startup, plus up to $150,000 in SAND tokens. The plan will also provide in-game land parcels LAND, which can be sold as NFT assets, can be customized, and can be monetized in the game world.
The program also brings together dozens of mentors from across the cryptocurrency and gaming industries, including Sebastien Borget himself and the rest of The Sandbox team, Animoca Brands executive chairman Yat Siu, Yield Guild Games co-founder Gabby Dizon, Kabam co-founder Holly Liu and Lympo co-founder and CEO Ada Jonuse.
