Russia’s Supreme Court has directed the St. Petersburg City Court to reconsider an appeal against cryptocurrency information website Bitcoininfo.ru.
According to a report by Russian legal information site RAPSI, the Vyborg District Court in St. Petersburg blocked the Bitcoininfo.ru website two years ago when they considered cryptocurrencies as a “virtual means of payment and accumulation of value” and therefore it was illegal to provide relevant information. , citing that cryptocurrencies have undermined Russia's only legal currency, the ruble.
Afterwards, the St. Petersburg Vyborg District Court did not re-examine the defendant’s Bitcoininfo.ru website, and the Bitcoininfo.ru website did not know at the beginning that the court would block their website until the access was cut off. However, despite the looming appeal window, Bitcoininfo.ru has decided to appeal the previous ruling, but the Vyborg District Court of St. Petersburg has refused to re-examine the case, according to reports.
