Odaily Planet Daily reported on Thursday that the White House plans to nominate Kristin Johnson of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for a senior position in the U.S. Treasury Department. Johnson's nomination announcement is expected to be made public soon, Bloomberg quoted anonymous sources as saying. The Treasury Department's Office of Financial Institutions helps formulate policies, focusing on cybersecurity, and the assistant secretary is responsible for a policy portfolio including banks, credit unions, insurance and consumer protection. This position was previously held by Graham Steele, who left in January according to multiple news reports. In a speech earlier that month, Steele urged U.S. lawmakers to develop regulatory standards for cryptocurrencies.
