Tom Lee: Ethereum Isn't "Digital Cash" — It's More Like "Digital Land"

2026-09-07 12:07

Odaily Planet Daily News: Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine, an Ethereum treasury company, and co-founder of Fundstrat, stated that Ethereum is more akin to "digital land" rather than cash.

Tom Lee believes that the core of a high-quality asset lies in its ability to serve as a long-term store of value, because investors trust that it can effectively hold and manage capital. Stocks can be stores of value, as investors buy shares based on their confidence in a company's long-term capital management capabilities; real estate possesses both store-of-value and cash-flow attributes, generating income through rentals.

Within this framework, Tom Lee argues that Ethereum is closer to the stock market or land. Its long-term value primarily stems from the network itself serving as the underlying infrastructure and settlement layer, rather than primarily functioning as a payment and medium-of-exchange mechanism like cash.
