UAE Sovereign Fund Plans to Invest 1 Trillion Yen to Build Japan's Largest AI Data Center

2026-08-07 04:33

Odaily News: The UAE is considering investing 1 trillion yen (approximately $6.3 billion) to participate in the construction of an AI data center project in Japan, with Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment expected to lead the investment, potentially joined by other overseas and Japanese domestic investors. Upon completion, the project is expected to become Japan's largest AI data center. It is reported that the total investment (including supporting enterprises and surrounding infrastructure) is expected to reach up to 2 trillion yen (approximately $12.6 billion).

It is understood that the project will deploy NVIDIA AI servers. The Japanese government has already designated data centers and cloud computing as key priorities in its growth strategy, aiming to attract 32.7 trillion yen in public and private investment by fiscal year 2035. In recent years, companies such as TSMC, Tower Semiconductor, and Micron have successively expanded their investments in Japan. Japanese data center operator NTT Data also plans to invest at least $9 billion by 2033 to expand its computing infrastructure. (Bloomberg)
