Odaily Planet Daily News a16z-backed blockchain game developer Proof of Play will cease operations, citing the failure to build a sustainable business around its decentralized gaming vision. The studio stated that it was unable to develop a product that could prove blockchain gaming could drive the scaled growth of a decentralized internet.

Proof of Play will open-source most of its code and art assets, including the Pirate Nation game, smart contracts, and internal software development tools. The independent Pirate Nation Foundation will continue to support the PIRATE token and maintain the website, but Proof of Play points will no longer be redeemable for anything.

The studio will also release the Founder Pirates NFT and Pirate Nation-related artwork and intellectual property under a CC0 license. The Shiba Story Go! game has been acquired by an unnamed third party and will continue to operate independently.
